The Qualities Of An Artist
Artist can be considered some of the most talented and creative individuals in the world. Their paintings have various hidden meanings incorporated into them and they are also perfectly beautiful to look at. Works of art such as The Mona Lisa has certainly changed the outlook on art as they can be tremendously beautiful to the eye of the beholder and an amazing experience to actually study and look at. Hence, for aspiring artists there are a number of qualities that one should have in themselves to become successful in terms of their paintings and also their individuals self belief. Below are some examples on these qualities that should be embedded in each and every artist out there.
First of all one of the most important aspects or qualities one should have in doing oil painting art would be patience. Perfecting skills in painting isn’t something easy that you could learn overnight. It requires years of training and experimenting, till you find the right formula and technique that would suit you. Hence, one should always have the patience to go through each and every hurdle that comes their way to be a successful artist.
Besides that, persistence and creativity is two other attributes that should be embedded in an artist. Oil painting art isn’t just a swish of the brush onto canvas. It is an art form that is entirely beautiful and is at times deemed perfect. If you really want to make it big in being an artist you should never give up and get up every time you fall. At the end of the day you have nothing to lose and all to gain. Creativity would be up next beside persistence as they come hand in hand. Without creativity, there is practically no way you could become a good artist. Your paintings should have elements of originality and difference as these are the attributes that would bring you up the ladder.

How do I include Gold Leaf in Oil Paintings?
I am an artist and I know a little about gilding from what I've read on the internet, but not too much. I want to incorporate into my artwork. I plan to use it on wood board with oil paints. I understand the general process, but there are some technical questions I'd like to know.
What should I prime the board with (gesso or something else)?
Can I use oil paint underneath gold leaf, or can I only use a bole?
How much does the color underneath effect the gold leaf (like let's say I used green instead of red)?
Is there anything important I need to know about the adhesive? I've heard some come in oil base.
Can I brush varnish over it without damaging it while I finish the painting?
I'm looking for concise answers. I you have any other helpful information to tell me then that'd be great too. Thanks!
Do you want a smooth surface with high reflective, mirror-like properties? Then you'll need to perfect the art of water-gilding. You'll need to learn how to make authentic gesso, not the acrylic version you can buy at the stores. You are looking at an exorbitant amount of time, effort, and money, as watergilding is extremely difficult.
If you want to just get gold-leaf on your painting with out worrying about how polished the gold looks, look into mordant gilding. Much more versatile and very compatible with oil painting. You just won't be able to buffer the gold surface to a mirror finish.
You can varnish over gold leaf without any problem. If you do mordant gilding, you can apply the leaf directly on top of the oil paint.
