How We Do It
There are several steps involved in manufacturing a bronze statue. We use the lost wax casting method to create the original piece. We pay close attention to details during this process, to ensure that your design is precise.
The next step of casting is to pour molten wax into the mold. The layers of wax form a duplicate of the original casting. Then, our craftspeople pull the wax from the mold and weld, polish, and add extra details. Then, we drop the wax casting into liquid clay multiple times and apply a layer of ceramic sand. We allow the mold to dry and then place it into a kiln.
Then we bake the shell until the wax melts, creating a hollow ceramic mold. We remove the mold from the kiln and pour 2,100 degree bronze into the shell. After the bronze cools down, we carefully strip the ceramic shell from the bronze. Our artisans then re-detail any weld marks to ensure excellence.
Finally, we produce an even bronze finish by spraying the statue or fountain with high-pressure powdered glass. We also apply a chemical called patina, which protects the bronze from corroding. Lastly, we apply a layer of heated wax, to create a brilliant finish. Once we thoroughly inspect the statue, the bronze statue is ready to display!
Bronze 101
Over 1,000 years ago, artists such as Donatello, Remington, and Rodin used the lost wax casting method to create bronze masterpieces. Though a majority of renowned bronze statues and fountains are located in public places like museums or parks, they can be recreated using the lost wax casting method. In this way, bronze enthusiasts can have a piece of history in their home or on their lawn at a low cost.
Bronze Tips and Tricks
Keeping your bronze statue or fountain outdoors will naturally cause it to turn green, due to verdigris or green patina. This gives the bronze statue or fountain a more antique or traditional look. If, however, you would like to preserve the bronze color, simply apply paste wax on your statue or fountain annually. You can also coat it with urethane or lacquer spray.
White spots may appear on your bronze statue as well. This is due to residual ceramic material from the casting process. Simply use paste wax, or Kiwi wax, to remove the spots. The best paste waxes are natural or non-abrasive. Never use car wax on a bronze statue or fountain.

What is the most unusual job title you have ever come across?
Mine is a "Saggar makers bottom knocker" Used in the pottery industry -
A Saggar is a mould, the bottom knocker bangs the bottom of the mould when it comes out of the kiln.
Wrinkle Chaser
A Wrinkle Chaser is the person that irons wrinkles from shoes as they are being made to ensure they are perfectly smooth when you buy them
Hot Walker
This is the person that walks the racehorses around after a race. It is important, because if a horse doesn't cool down before returning to his stall, the overheating can cause kidney damage.
Hair Boiler
This lucky soul gets to boil various kinds of animal hair until it curls for later use. We know that burning hair smells terrible; try to imagine catching the aroma of hair boil soup all day, no thanks.
Snake Milker
If you ever get bitten by a poisonous snake you'll be grateful these people know how to work with animals. They are responsible for getting the venom out of snakes to make the anti-venom. Be honest, which one of you thought that snakes had actual milk glands?
Brain Picker
Places animal head on a table or on hooks in a slaughterhouse, splits the skull and picks out the brains.
Odor Judgers
Odor Judgers get to smell armpits all day to help make deodorants that will work well.
Thanks! It was fun looking these up!
