Painting is one of the most creative jobs. An artist when he puts his thoughts on to the material it is important that they require complete and a good set of tools that his brush, the palette, and many other things . There are many different kinds of Painting Brushes from which you can choose from like big, square, small, fan, angle, mop, rigger, Filbert, Bright and many others. These brushes differ in their size, shapes, the fiber used in the brushes, some of these brushes are made of synthetic fibers, natural hair, and some are made of the combination of both synthetic fibers as well as natural hair. These brushes are available in different sizes like some are available in the size of a pencil tip and some are almost as large as a brush used for the painting done in the homes. So there are a wide variety of choices available for the artists to choose their brush which they can be more comfortable with.

Here are few tips which would help you choose the right kind of the brush for your painting experience to be made more beautiful.

To start with it would be a bad idea to refer all those books which tell you about how to paint certain objects with certain objects. Because painting completely depends on your creativity and skill.

For oil painting you’ll mainly need two kinds of brushes with different sizes. It would be better to stick to the basics Flats and Filberts. Flat brushes provide you with sharper edges in the course of painting, and on the other hand Filberts create more rounded and softer strokes owing to their shape.

It is better that you have Flats and Filberts of three main sizes, small, medium and large for both the cases.

Incase you are intending to create paintings of size more than 18 by 24 inches then, it is essential that you use large painting brush so that it speeds ups your painting process. An old house brush can also be useful in painting large areas and even for painting the entire canvas with a similar color. These seven brushes can be more than enough for painting but if you are interested to carry some more handy brushes than you can probably go in for a Rigger or a small round brush which you can use for signing your paintings.

As far as it is concerned for synthetic versus natural then natural hair brushes are suitable for oil paintings. So decide on your choice of the paint brushes and do take good care of your paint brushes.

Has anyone used the kind of tempera that comes in pint bottles?

It is not the 'traditional' kind of tempera, but the kind usually sold as 'poster paint' or something... it is called tempera, and a lot of places and art catalogs sell it.They usually have a line of really basic colors, like red, blue, yellow, black, blue, no real 'color' names like cadmium red or ultramarine blue, you know? I bought some, but am unsure how to go about using it...I know this sounds weird. Is it like acrylic, or watercolor or what? Has anyone had any experience with it in a real art type setting? (Not making posters or letting the kids paint with it? ) LOL!!! Does it make brushes hard if left in them? Not that I would do that I am just wondering... Lightfastness? What kinds of paper or surface should I use? Anything on this would be appreciated. I have a million questions about this but I can't think of them all LOL!!! ANything you know, please let me know. Tempera (or poster paint) is a water-based paint which uses inexpensive pigments and fillers for the sake of child safety and economy - great for school kids to use but it's not artist-quality. It will certainly wash out of your brushes because they use no staining pigments or polymers.

The fillers in tempera (which make it opaque) use varying degrees of gypsum (chalk), and the pigments are not permanent since lightfast pigments are generally rated unsafe for children. The binders will break down in a short period of time as the paint's application is intended to be temporary.

If you like the effects of using this type of paint, the artist-quality alternative is Designers' Gouache - an opaque watercolour using titanium oxide pigment as the opacifier instead of chalk. The pigments will all be listed on the jar or tube, and rated in degrees of lightfastness. The binder is gum arabic which does not crack like the binder in tempera, while leaving the paint re-soluble with water. Because of this quality, gouache paintings need to be framed behind glass.

Have fun with tempera - use it to plan out other paintings and for immediate expression. It's best used on a porous, non-slick surface - watercolour paper or illustration board are excellent choices. Just be aware that your efforts will not be "forever"... I'm also a framer, and have seen the effects of time on tempera paintings - fading, cracking and peeling.

Though I could enjoy speaking on the topic of art for sometime, I found myself without a way to truly understand the differing values in the ways of thought that permeate this grouping of human experience, and found myself looking to sources over the Internet to further my knowledge to utilize the information gathered to purchase paintings.  I have always been interested in the passions evoked by the series of artists and movements that proliferate what we have come to know as the history of art.  Reflecting on this notion of life's passing interaction whether Romanticist, Surrealist, or Minimalist in nature.

Speaking on Minimalism now, the ideas that made this movement unique relied heavily upon the work being stripped down to the barest fundamental aspects, and laying bare those integral parts of self-expression.  Many pieces of work other than visual art has been affected by these ideals of minimalism, and acted outside of this particular aesthetic appeal, creating new ways to interpret literature and even lifestyles.  As far as painting goes, however, the minimalist paintings will typically use limited color schemes and simple geometric designs.  Minimalist sculpture is focused on the materials used.

Some of the phases commonly agreed on about this movement are each notable for how they have progressed the overall conception of minimalism as a movement.  A distillation in forms was the first phase, with contributors claiming in order to create a universal language of art that masses were meant to understand easily, and seemed poised to support the rapid industrialization for particular settings of the time.  Searching for a purity of form, and paving the way for the abstractions to come later on, allowing for the second more notable phase to reach its' crescendo afterwards.

Much of the formats for commercial artwork we see today have had a great deal of background in this movement of visual art, allowing us to understand on a fundamental level what the message is that the work is trying to convey, and a large amount of the signs and signals we find today relies heavily upon these ideals to translate a universal meaning to the general populace.  We can easily see the progression of minimalism in these examples of the world over, and it almost as ingrained into our society now as much as we care to see.

A minimalist painting will typically use a very limited amount of colors and have a very simplistic geometric design. Minimalism in sculpture, on the other hand, is much more concerned with the materials used. Many people believe that minimalism in generally is about geometric shapes, but this interpretation depends widely on the branch of art as well as the interpreter.

But the simplest way to describe minimalism is that the less that is in the painting or work of art, the better it is. Minimalism is all about drawing attention to the few objects and colors of the composition. In this way minimalism shows us that less is better, for the eye is not drawn away by this of that filler or extra objects.

Minimalism is about starting with nothing and then carefully applying the few objects and colors that will define the piece as a whole. Minimalism is still one of the major parts of contemporary art, but it is used I conjunction with other styles and flairs from other art movements to form new types of minimalism.

Many people would like to paint pictures. They go to art galleries where they see many different kinds of painings.

In some realist art the painting looks nearly like a photograph; the artist represents objects or scenes as he/she

 

sees them, namely, as the scene looks in reality.

Abstract art, the opposite to realist painting, can be anything from a canvas covered with only one colour, or a set of lines and squiggles and it might also be given a title such as “Man Fishing.” Thus the viewer must decide whether to try and see a picture of someone fishing, or just accept it as it is, abstract.  It might be a good idea to leave some of these paintings untitled, them  the viewer can see what he likes in the work.

 

In books written about art one invariably sees a photograph of a person standing at an easel on which there is a large canvas. The painter holds a paint brush and palette, while there are numerous tubes of different colored paints lying on a table.

 

An aspiring artist may go to an art store and look at the

vast quantity of artists’ materials available,  and also take a look at the prices of the canvas, paints, oils, painting medium, and, of course, the easel. Some people may feel overwhelmed by such a lot of materials needed to begin painting, besides the cost adding up to hundreds of dollars. Best go home and forget the idea of being a painter, much too expensive….but what a pity, if you have such a strong urge to paint.

 

At home you might just have the tools that a professional painter might use – yes, you better believe it! Check it out. Do you have rags, sponges, scourers, steel wool, cotton wool,

cotton buds, cardboard, bits of wood, sticks? Perhaps you have some of these items. Indeed you might throw some of them out every day as rubbish.

 

Now go into the garden and look at all the

different leaves, ferns, even flowers. You will also find there sticks – thin, thick, bits of bark.

 

Now go to the bathroom and find a nail brush, an old toothbrush, perhaps even an old razor. Look around the house for different odds and ends.

 

‘But why am I doing this?’ you might think to yourself.

Well, I guess the title of this little article caught your eye, didn’t it?  But how can you paint without brush?

 

 Get started. Take some paints, acrylic or water-based paints are best.  Get a jar or bowl of water, and some rags. Put together  a collection: a sponge, some cotton-wool, some steelwool, some cardboard, (any thickness), scissors, some tissue paper. That’s about enough for a start.

 

Now you have a few tubes of paint. The odds and ends you have gathered are the tools for using the paint.  But what are you going to paint on? Paper?  Canvas?

 

Cartridge paper is good to begin with, if you’re using paper, it’s about the right thickness. Canvas or some other material needs to be stiff. A coat of starch would probably do the job, or even a coat of white acrylic paint. Leave that one til later. Choose the size of the paper, perhaps cut it to the size you want

 

Work on a table,  a bench or even on the floor.

Squeeze some paint onto - a plastic icecream container lid, a saucer,  something flat anyway. Now you’re ready to go.

 

Choose one of your ‘tools’, dip it into the paint and press it onto the paper.  Make different shapes with it. Try another tool and another colour paint. Scrape, swirl, dab, drag along.

Experiment with how much paint to use. Use a little water with it, not too much. Put one colour on top of another.

 

When you’re satisfied with your ‘painting’ clean up: wash tools (probably the rags or wood) for next time, or throw them away, and find different ones. Leave your work to dry. Frame it if you like. But you probably need to do quite a few ‘works’  before you want to frame any.  Eventually you will find a style of painting you like to do, and also the colour combinations you prefer. It takes some practice before you feel really satisfied with what you are doing. Keep on going!

Normal things you can do to a child help the brain wake up and send signals better!

Using a brush on a child's hand before artwork would stimulate the child's hand muscles... get the nerves woken up, to "work" better.

Brushing a child's teeth before a meal will also stimulate the muscles in the mouth for better chewing, swallowing, tongue action, etc..Get the brain thinking about food before its in their mouth!

Spraying sour things in a child's mouth gets the tongue to the roof of the mouth for better oral motor, vocalizations, swallowing, etc.
